Once again, it’s time for a new release of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon. As the final release of the year, it continues to showcase the consistency in both quality and craftmanship that we have come to expect from Elijah Craig Barrel Proof during 2018.
This release is an uncut small batch of 12 year old Bourbon, bottled straight from the barrel and we couldn’t resist tasting it.
We will be blind tasting Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon in an upcoming issue… watch this space.

Nose: Sweet vanilla pods, the insides, candied orange peel and bags of oak. A serious amount of oak, like a carpenter’s shop in the summer. Spiced apple pie, cinnamon and allspice. A little blood orange flesh and a hint of menthol.
Palate: Seriously intense stuff, spices build with cinnamon, clove and nutmeg. Dark honey and caramel wafers. There a some lovely earthy notes here, old school cough syrup and cedar chests.
Finish: Parma Violets, very intense, short and sharp, that cough syrup vibe is back. Pepper spices build then vanish.
Comments: What a way to begin the Autumn with. This is a serious rollercoaster with spices punching and the oak shining through. An excellent drop. More please!
