Golden Promise Arkansas Bourbon Whiskey
Rock Town Distillery
Rob Allanson – 8.8
Nose: Vast corn notes then white chocolate coated raisins. Gentle oak and cereal notes, pencil shavings and nutmeg spice. Distant scent of smoked bacon.
Palate: Plenty more oak here and raisin and sultana cakes. A little saline note towards the end and that distant smoke returns.
Finish: Lots of oak, salty and then spices with cinnamon.
Comments: A great and big boned whiskey that has plenty of swagger to it.
Sam Coyne – 8.5
Nose: Vanilla custard over dried apricots. Cereal – faintly beery. Oak and cinnamon.
Palate: Apricots have ripened back to life, a bit more than on the nose. A little oak emerges to dry everything out a little. Vanilla and caramel with a pecan pie and toothpaste hit right towards the end.
Finish: Pretty long, with the oak spices taking hold.
Comments: A good standout that is going in its own direction.
