Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Flag Hill Distillery and Winery
Peggy Noe Stevens – 8.0
Nose: Oak then earthy, fresh hay and white cherry blend before a golden raisin appears. Elegance, but with little spice. Hint of lavender.
Palate: Wood sugar and honeycomb. Clean white pepper in the back and dried apricot.
Finish: Flavors persist on the length of the finish, pleasantly rounded and approachable too.
Comments: A Bourbon that glides and is obliging, would drink early in the work week with a good friend.
Susan Reigler – 6.9
Nose: Dominated by corn like the un-popped kernels in the bottom of a bowl of popcorn which has been sprinkled with dried dill.
Palate: Medicinal, like witch hazel. Corn husk and a little bit of vanilla and peach. Very peppery tannins, too.
Finish: Mostly alcohol and oak.
Comments: Astringency gets in the way of other flavors. Unappealing without being actually offensive. Might some age help?
