Bare Knuckle American Rye Whiskey
Peggy Noe Stevens – 8.5
Nose: Dark raisin and banana bread. Molasses and black walnut. Honey and red pear with candied orange.
Palate: Black licorice. Cola and coffee are rich and playful. Crème Brule is wispy, yet elegant. Crushed dark fruit mixture conjures with allspice.
Finish: Almost chewy tannins in a pleasant way. Little heat, but lingers with a crisp and grainy rye statement
Comment: Delightfully crisp and dry.
Susan Reigler – 8.2
Nose: Rye grass with notes of peppery mint, vanilla, and oak. A whiff of apple emerges as the whiskey sits in the glass.
Palate: Raisins and dates with some vanilla appear first. Waves of cinnamon and allspice with nutty tannins.
Finish: Fades rather quickly. The ending is very dry and clean.
Comment: A couple of drops of water reveal more rye characteristics, especially some caraway and pepper. Would very much like to try this in a Sazarac.
