Peggy Noe Stevens – 8.2
Nose: Bright peach and vanilla aromas; yet herbaceous with lavender and mint. Faint diluted clove and almost hides behind the herbal highlights.
Palate: Easy going with paprika and butterscotch. Some cherry and mint that are established with hidden layers of peach.
Finish: Lays in the center of your tongue and rests with the spice, delivering a soft vanilla and white cherry.
Comment: A very subtle rye that I would like to try in a Sazerac cocktail.
Susan Reigler – 8.5
Nose: Rye grass leaps right out of the glass followed by cherries and sassafras. There’s a tiny whiff of wood smoke. Vanilla emerges after a minute, as well as cola.
Palate: Spicy on the tongue with notes of vanilla, brown sugar, dark cherries, baking spices and sweet oak.
Finish: The vanilla, brown sugar, and fruit all persist on the finish with a good deal of cinnamon spice.
Comment: The flavor layers are subtle and would be lost in a cocktail. So sip this neat.
