Kinnickinnic Blended Whiskey
Great Lakes Distillery
Peggy Noe Stevens – 8.4
Nose: Grassy hay and white cane sugar. Banana and pineapple peppery note.
Palate: Pear and hazelnut at first taste. Golden raisin accents with white pepper and a very crisp texture.
Finish: Warm finish on the swallow that is anything but shy. Then whisks away to make room for the sweet overtures of the cane sugar and grains.
Comment: Tries to surprise you playing it cool on the nose and then heats up the affection on the taste.
Susan Reigler – 8.2
Nose: So sweet that it is almost, but not quite, cloying. Apricots and taffy with some brown sugar. The alcohol stays in the background.
Palate: A good deal of vanilla taffy with notes of spun sugar, ripe peaches and apricots. A sprinkling of cinnamon shines through and there is a bare hint of nuts.
Finish: The fruit carries on, the finish becomes unexpectedly dry with some sweet oak.
Comment: Altogether rather light-bodied, but very approachable. Sip neat, needs no water.
