Blended Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Old Elk Distillery
Peggy Noe Stevens – 8.4
Nose: Toasted pecan and warm brown sugar with a splash of vanilla. Spiced apples layered over a doughy biscuit.
Palate: Sugared dates and milk chocolate are very approachable and leather wraps at the end of the sweet note. Inviting peach and apricot mix are artfully balanced with oak.
Finish: Full mouthfeel and easy on the heat. The tobacco and leather notes linger.
Comment: Grab the mixins’ for an Old-Fashioned as this product would deliver.
Susan Reigler – 8.1
Nose: Apple blossoms, sweet mint, brown sugar, and light caramel combine in a light, but well-balanced, nose. Sweet baking spices begin to emerge.
Palate: Much drier and spicier in the mouth than on the nose. Cinnamon is joined by a big dash of black pepper and oak.
Finish: Long and oaky. There’s a tiny hint of dark chocolate that pops up at the end.
Comment: Good sip that would have been even better if the complexity of the nose had carried through.
