District Made Straight Rye Whiskey
One Eight Distilling
Peggy Noe Stevens – 8.8
Nose: Great herbaceous nose with rye spice and molasses that slides in on the second nose. Energetic aromas of caramelized wood sugar.
Palate: Engaging first sip that captures the caramel and vanilla at just the right pace before it opens to a rich cinnamon and Asian spice that pleases. Walnuts and apple.
Finish: Long sweet dry finish that is abundant with spicy blends.
Comment: Crowd pleasing rye whiskey that deserves another sip… and another.
Susan Reigler – 8.5
Nose: Herbal rye note is light and accompanied by ripe apples, plus a squeeze of citrus. A whiff of cola.
Palate: Fresh fruit and herbal spice light up the palate and the note on the nose resolves into cola. Sweetness and spice seesaw back and forth with each other.
Finish: The herbs linger on the tongue and are joined by bracing black pepper for a long, satisfying finish.
Comment: A fine neat sip. Would also be an excellent rye for cocktail mixing too.
