Peggy Noe Stevens – 9.0
Nose: Generous vanilla nose with wrapped caramel. Sweet, dried cherries and brown sugar with a toasty-nutty bouquet.
Palate: Energetic and deep caramel and dark raisin. Roasted marshmallow with ample proportions of grain and oak.
Finish: Approachable and easy with a subtle fresh oak and wood sugar that blends with a soft, smokey finish.
Comment: This is a comfortable companion to sip of an evening.
Susan Reigler – 8.8
Nose: Wine-like with dark fruit, caramel, cinnamon, brown sugar, sweet oak, and some new leather.
Palate: Very fruity up front, followed by caramel. Then spices – cinnamon, cardamom – followed by a light squeeze of citrus.
Finish: The citrus teases around the edge of the tongue before being overtaken by the caramel and spices.
Comment: Even though eminently drinkable at bottle proof, add a little water to enhance the caramel sweetness.
