New Riff Distillery
Peggy Noe Stevens 8.0
Nose: Corn cakes and layers of caramel apple. Currants and sweet, dried cherries. Some floral notes that lay in before the wood.
Palate: Savory texture with some bold leather and char. Black pepper and pineapple. Some butterscotch and toffee flavors yet do not overpower. Toast.
Finish: A bit hot on the finish with cayenne, but long and coveys substance and appeal.
Comments: Zesty in a good way. Ice is nice for this whiskey.
Susan Reigler 7.8
Nose: Caramel icing with black currants, roasted pecans and black pepper. Rather light and doesn’t want to leave the glass.
Palate: Very peppery, then caramel and oak. There may be other elements of fruit and non-pepper spices, but they are faint.
Finish: The caramel dries to spicy oak.
Comments: Absolutely add a few drops of water to this which sweetens the whiskey and brings out some dark fruit.
