Nose: Ginger and sweet vanilla bean. Toffee is balanced with the spice and vanilla. Biscuit with an orange marmalade. Pine nuts and coconut.

Palate: White pepper on the palate after a ginger hit, warm brown sugar, wood essence, golden apple and green tea.

Finish: Nice finish that repeats the spice of ginger and apple. Admirable texture and fresh leather.

Comments: Highly mixable, especially if you like a spicier old fashioned at the end of a long day.

Nose: Sweet cherries and roses rise from the glass with notes of exotic spices, including cardamom and a light whiff of sandalwood.

Palate: Vanilla forward with fruit and spice emerging. It’s sweet but avoids being cloying.

Finish: Oak finally shows up here as fruit lingers in the roof of the mouth. It fades quickly.

Comments: Sweetness at the expense of some balance. Nonetheless, it is an easy drinker. But it would probably get lost in a cocktail. Vermouth would vanquish it.
