Monday is here and that can only mean one thing (no, not tears) – it’s time for our tasting of the week. We’re taking a trip to Chicago, Illinois to test out KOVAL Distillery’s Four Grain Whiskey.
KOVAL
Four Grain Whiskey
94 Proof 47% ABV
About the Whiskey
The Four Grain Whiskey from KOVAL Distillery is available as part of its core range of whiskeys, distilled from a mash bill of oat, malted barley, rye, and wheat. The spirit is aged in heavily charred new oak barrels, from Minnesota, before being bottled at 94 proof.
Tasting Note
Nose: Heavy cereal, then a sweet rye spice. A thick slice of fresh wholemeal bread with a layer of honey. Coconut shavings in amongst malted milk biscuits, caramel and a dark berry compote.
Palate: There’s a delicate oiliness, before the biscuit and wholemeal note returns with mixed spice. Warm vanilla, like crème caramel, and hints of lavender honey.
Finish: Drying tannins leave you with nutmeg and weighty wholemeal.
Comments: The nose really hooked me in on this and it develops nicely on the palate with plenty of character.
