Nose: Ginger haze with a cola-like aroma. Sweet currants and cherry with honey drizzle and faint fresh straw. Some leathery oak.

Palate: Bright brown sugar and a licorice whip. Rounds out in a mixed baking spice and cherry note. Oak and the earthy leather delightful.

Finish: Continuously layers on the flavors and complexity of the oaky wood sugar.

Comments: This lovely liquid is a home run for any occasion, mature and cultured, rich and complex.

Nose: The alcohol and a smidgen of grain emerge, but little else. It has to sit before some demerara sugar peeps through.

Palate: Big ol’ mouthful of smoky oak. If smoked meat is to your taste, this will be most enjoyable, there is little complexity.

Finish: After an initial heat shock, the flavor gradually fades to the dominant smoky oak.

Comments: Begs for some water. Be generous. The payoff comes with the emergence of apple peel, rich malt, and some milk chocolate.

Score

8.5
