Peggy Noe Stevens

Nose
Bright nose of cherry and baking spices. Caramel, nougat and brown sugar. Chopped pecans, candied dates and toffee.

Palate
Elegant mouthfeel with rich caramel and cherry. Toffee-vanilla ladles in sweetness. Spices erupt. Dark stone fruits.

Finish
Lush finish sending oak and wood sugar with a pleasant finishing spice.

Comments
Seductive mouthfeel with overtures of rich caramel and cherry – two glasses, please.

Score

9.1

Susan Reigler

Nose
Very herbal, new sawdust and rye spice. Caramel is present, too.

Palate
Hard caramel candy with some candied apples and dried cherries. Cinnamon red hots provide the spice.

Finish
The sweet and savory take turns before finally to oak and pepper. Warmth lingers.

Comments
The herbal character makes this rye-like. High rye mash bill? High proof might make it dangerous in a cocktail. But try it anyway for a turbo-charged Manhattan!

Score

8.8
