Augusta Distillery has confirmed the appointment of Alex Castle as its first master distiller and director of distillery operations. Castle returns to her home state of Kentucky to take up the role, after leaving for her most recent position in Memphis, Tennessee, where she held the master distiller role at Old Dominick Distillery.
Ryan Edwards, president of Augusta Distillery, commented: “Alex’s stellar reputation precedes her. Her exceptional bourbon and distilling knowledge will provide an immediate boost to Augusta Distillery’s mission to produce world-class bourbon. We consider ourselves fortunate to have her on board.”
Named president of the Tennessee Distillers Guild in 2020, as well as sitting as a board member for the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States, Castle is known as a “devoted industry advocate”. Castle’s previous experience has also seen her spend time at Wild Turkey.
Castle is set to join Augusta Distillery on May 28. Founded in 2018, Augusta is currently in the process of converting an 1800s factory into its new distillery and visitor experience.
Castle said: “I’m incredibly excited to be joining the team at Augusta. I have always dreamed of returning to my home state and making Kentucky bourbon whiskey once more. I am grateful for the team at Augusta Distillery and the trust they’re putting in me. I know it’s going to be an amazing journey and we’re just getting started.”
Augusta currently produces whiskeys aged eight years or older via its Buckner’s and Old Route 8 series.
