Broken Barrel Whiskey Co has announced the introduction of Honey Smoke Reserva, building off its popular Honey Smoke Rye release from 2022. The new offering features a whiskey aged for six years, finished for five months using 50% honey barrel staves and 50% Texas sotol barrel staves and bottled at 110 proof (55% ABV).

Around 1,900 bottles of the expression are now available online and in select retail stores in CA, IN, KY, MN, OK and SC. The limited release has an SRRP of $79.

The producers have described the expression as having earthy aromas, with notes of vanilla, spice and golden honey on the palete with a lasting, sweet spice, warming smoky finish .

Commenting on the release, Broken Barrel founder Seth Benhaim said: “The response we received to last year’s Honey Smoke rye whiskey was incredible. The older whiskey, higher proof, and longer finished time for this year’s release promises to make it one of the most distinctive tasting spirits ever produced. We’re also making whiskey history as the first to finish this whiskey using a combination of honey and sotol barrel staves. This is a must buy!”

Founded in 2017, Broken Barrel is a portfolio of premium whiskeys sourced from Green River Distilling in Owensboro, Kentucky. More information on the Honey Smoke Reserva release, and others in their portfolio, can be found here.
