Following on from our education on the subject of bourbon last week, we’re back to fill you in on five basic facts you didn’t know to help break down the process of whiskey making!
As we move further into the year, each week will bring new insight and depth of learning on the subject of whiskey production, whiskey tasting, cocktail options and much more. However, today we’re setting off with the basics of whiskey production. Grab yourself a dram, pen and paper!
- Process the raw materials (grains) in order to create a sugary liquid
- Fermentation is where the sugary liquid and yeast combines to create both an alcoholic liquid and flavors
- Distillation is the process of selecting and concentrating the alcohols and flavors via the use of a heat source
- Aged in barrels to ensure the correct flavor and alcoholic strength
