Woodford Reserve has released Tawny Port Finish, a limited-edition bottle and the latest addition to the brand’s Distillery Series. The expression is bottled at 90.4 proof and was created to push Woodford Reserve’s creative boundaries within the whiskey market.

When crafting this new expression, master distiller Elizabeth McCall combined a rye and bourbon blend with bourbon finished in Tawny Port barrels, accentuating the fruit character in the whiskey. This was then balanced by additional bourbon to create a uniquely complex whiskey.

“This expression highlights our ability to artfully blend rye and bourbon whiskey, as well our approach to barrel experimentation,” said McCall. “The Tawny Port barrels impart delicate notes of wood and concentrated fruit, which combined with the charred oak barrels, allow us to create a rich, layered whiskey."

Tasting notes provided by Woodford Reserve say this whiskey has notes of nutmeg and dried dark fruit on the nose, followed by rich raisin, clove, and toasted walnut on the palate.

Tawny Port Finish (SRP $64.99) is available in limited quantities at select Kentucky retailers and at Woodford Reserve Distillery from May 20. It is also available for shipping in select states via Woodford Reserve’s online shop.
